No rugged scanner required to get started
You do not need a truckload of specialized handheld scanners to run scan-verified delivery. ScanIt Delivery runs on ordinary smartphones — the same phones your drivers already have in their pockets. That means a dealership can put drivers on the app without a hardware purchase standing in the way.
Rugged handheld scanners from Chainway, Urovo, and Monarch are fully supported for teams that want them. But they are an option, not a requirement. Drivers can use whatever the dealership already has.
Because the app runs on standard phones, drivers can use their own devices. No forced hardware purchase means a faster, lower-cost rollout for the parts department.
The phone camera does the scanning
On a standard phone, ScanIt Delivery uses the phone's built-in camera to read barcodes. The driver points the camera at the part's barcode and the app captures it — the same scan-to-confirm accuracy you would get from a dedicated scanner, using hardware the driver already owns.
That camera scan drives the same verified workflow: confirming the right parts reached the right stop, tying deliveries to the route, and building the proof-of-delivery record.
The camera is used to scan barcodes — to read and capture them. The delivery app has no printer and does not print labels on the device.
On iPhone, you can see what the camera read
The iPhone camera scanner draws a box around the barcode it actually picked up, so the driver can tell at a glance that the right label was read. The scan beep is back too, which matters when the phone is held at arm’s length over a dim truck bed.
Two other iPhone rough edges are gone: the back swipe now works everywhere in the app, and the permission prompts on first run come one after another instead of stacking on top of each other.
Why BYOD makes the rollout easier
